The Day Before Closing!

KeeKee flew in again from Kentucky with an entire XL suitcase full of her tools (see the video above for a hilarious moment in the hotel room with KeeKee sharing her toosl with Faj and me)! Maj and Faj packed 2 trailers full of demolition equipment and tools and drove up to help me on the big day (they stayed for an entire week to help). To say I was blown away by the level of support on all fronts is a massive understatement. I was exhausted, overworked, approaching burnout (let's be honest - I was in the middle of burnout), and my fam totally swooped in and carried me through this week with their love and energy. I am so grateful I can't even find words to express it. There's no way I could have done this without them, as you'll see from the coming videos!

The first big surprise from Keekee on the morning of her arrival (the day before the Closing) ... matching custom High-Vis shirts for the four of us, inscribed with "Jessie Buys a House" on the front and "Tierney Construction Crew" on the back. And that was just the start of the flood of support and thoughtfulness that flowed in from my amazing Fam.

Another great, unexpected occurrence was this: when we asked if we could come to the property on Thursday, the day before the closing, and start trimming trees (per the requirement of my Homeowner's Insurance -- Jennifer Matthews' AllState Agency is great, I recommend them), the owner surprisingly agreed that we could come do some yardwork! So Maj and Faj rolled into the backyard, parked the two trailers, and started taking bushes out, trimming trees, removing the ones too close to the house, evicting stubborn stumps, moving rocks around, getting rid of old metal and concrete posts, and loads more. It seemed like nobody had done much to keep up the yard or tame the foliage in about 20 years, except for dumping a ton of mulch on top of everything in the front yard 🤦. The former owner had rented the home since 2012 and it showed ... not much upkeep. But with the manpower of the Fam, I was amazed at the progress we made in just one day already!

A COLORFUL SIDE NOTE!

Thanks to the AllState support folks, I learned that I could look up the home's specifications and history on the Boulder County Assessor's page, and it's a funny story how it happened:

The guy I was speaking with on the line to set up my Homeowner's Insurance start date asked,

"Is there an HOA?" Before I had a chance to answer no, he said,

"OH. I see ... Definitely not. Wow, this sure is a colorful place ..." and I said, "Well not really, it's grey," and he promptly directed me to the assessor's page where I discovered a very much more colorful rendition of the home I was about to purchase, likely taken in 2012 when the current owner purchased it initially. It was literally a rainbow house! It made me love it even more.
