How it Started: Jessie Buys a🏡House!

It all started in October 2025, when my sister Katie (KeeKee) came to town to see my beloved office space where I practice Frequency Medicine. When I was lamenting about how many times I'd moved in the past few years (this would be the tenth time since 2019), she had an idea, "We need to get Jessie a house!"
Mere moments later, she had compiled a list of foreclosure homes (which we later realized were all bogus) and we were in the truck with Maj and Faj, cruising around Longmont, peering out the windows as we drove slowly past potential homes from the list. It was really the first time I had considered getting a house (I was very attached to my next move being into the BIG DREAM of landing at an enormous retreat center with land and horses where I could live & do my Frequency Medicine practice, but had not considered an interim step of getting into a home first).
As we drove around Longmont, it started to feel more and more appealing to stop paying rent and start living in a place that could really be my home. I hadn't ever considered that I would enjoy putting down roots in this (conventional) way; had always thought I'd land somewhere grandiose. But this could also be really good. The more I thought about coming home to a place that was roommate-free, all me, where I could tend a little garden and create a healing sanctuary for myself, the more I fell in love with the idea. Especially a space that was close to my work (which is really important to me!).
We soon discovered that the "foreclosure" list was not legit, but the momentum had started, and the Quest had begun! My mom (Maj) reached out to a realtor she loves in Canyon City, who recommended the Patrick Dolan Team in Longmont, and we connected with Bryce Dolan who drove Maj and I around the following weekend to check out a list of actually for-sale homes. Bryce was down to earth and it didn't take long for him to hone in on what I was looking for (I think honestly, he and I were discovering what I was looking for at about the same time!) The price points here in Boulder County are about three to four times what my mom, a former realtor in Illinois, was expecting, and the more homes we walked into, the more we realized that it's just a crazy expensive market here and we'd have to adjust expectations a bit. But Boulder County homes rarely if ever depreciate in value, so in the long-enough term, it would be a good investment.
And then I walked into the sweet grey cottage with the peaked roof on Baker Street. High ceilings. Arched doorways. Wooden floors. Enormous, old glass windows with sunlight literally pouring in from the South. It felt like a warm embrace when I stepped into the center of the front room surrounded by that much light. My entire body experienced a visceral sigh as I walked through the house. Tiny bedrooms, yes. Needed a little work, yes. But I could just tell that if I lived here, coming home to this space would be like coming home to a sanctuary. Peace. Warmth. Comfort. Beauty. Cozy. Quiet.

Nothing else we saw and none of the other listings Bryce kept sending over even came close to the house on Baker Street. I could conjure up the living room in my mind and my whole being relaxed. I knew this was my home.
Days passed and I couldn't get this sweet house out of my mind, but it was out of our price range. We reached out to Chris Larson at Synergy One Lending and with some creative financial gymnastics (thanks to my load of Student Loan debt), we finally got pre-approved for a loan.
I crafted a letter to the owner of the Baker Street house (who was also a realtor; we learned this had been an investment property when he purchased it back in 2012, and he had always rented it out, never living there himself), attempting to convey my sincere love of the home. We made an offer. He countered, pretty starkly, "If I don't get $xxx for it, I'll just put it back up for rent." Didn't seem like he was going to budge, despite my genuine, heartfelt letter. I tried to look at the other listings Bryce kept sending, but didn't have it in me to check out any of them in person. Nothing had the charm and tangible love that the Baker Street house had! Nothing else resonated. I had been chosen by this house!
So we countered again and by some miracle, the realtor accepted our offer! We named a quick closing date just a few weeks away in hopes that the fast turnaround would be appealing. But that meant it was time for action!
Bryce recommended Dave Spielman of Scott Home Inspection, who was known for his love and understanding of old homes (on the real estate listing, my house was said to be built in 1910 but we later learned that the Longmont City Hall records building burned down in 1910, so anything built prior to that was lost and everything post-dated ... a deeper dive revealed the building date of 1900 for this sweet, sturdy home!). For five hours, Dave did his inspection work while simultaneously explaining to me in a fatherly manner all the ins-and-outs of an older home. I learned SO MUCH on that day and was so grateful for his in-depth knowledge and support.
The inspection passed. The Appraisal passed. Our loan was approved!
