I had a client the morning of The Big Day - November 21, 2025 - so Maj, Faj, Keekee and Bryce handled the final walkthrough, and I scooted over to the Title office as soon as I could to get to signing a big stack of documents!
Bryce and Chris were great supporters in the entire process, and this day was the official start of what would turn out to teach me far more than I expected as I cultivated a sanctuary and stewarded the land and home.
So today was the closing, followed by the first moment of KITCHEN DEMOLITION -- initiated by Kentucky wild woman, my sister KeeKee, who brought all of her experience (and tools) from her Kentucky farmhouse remodel days when she did a lot of it herself!
Little did we know that the entire plan would end up changing eventually (once we found out we needed some Structural Engineering under the 2 additions that were built on deck posts rather than foundation!). We started out thinking we'd do the kitchen and bathroom remodel during this week of Katie, Maj, and Faj in town, but it transformed into taking a wall & closets out to turn 2 (tiny) bedrooms into one. Watch & read on for the whole saga ...
Here's the original plan for this trip (when KeeKee, Maj, and Faj were here to support for 8 days):
Demo / Remodel the Kitchen: take out the cabinets, put in a pocket door between bathroom and kitchen, and re-frame the opening between kitchen and mudroom.
Demo / Remodel the Bathroom: floors, cabinets, washer/dryer, new window for more light, ceiling fan
Make a plan & get a quote for the floors
Make a plan & get a quote for replacing the windows
Little did we know ... the house (and a visit from a structural engineer, recommended by the Home Inspection) had other things in store.
